Read her story
Academically, I have done B.Sc in Bio-Technology and an MBA in Retail Management from BIMTECH Noida. From my school days, I was interested in science which led me to do Bachelors in Bio-Technology. Quite early on in my life, I had realized that I am a sales person at heart from childhood days and this drove me towards choosing a career in Retail. The retail industry was in boom back in 2007 and I was always a customer oriented person. Hence, MBA happened in 2008-2010. Branding, consumerism and advertising always excited me and I always wanted to become a Brand Manager. I am passionate about selling anything under the sun. And thus the journey began with the apparel arm of Aditya Birla Group as Buying and Merchandising Manager, predominantly dealing in men’s apparel division. This opportunity helped me gain hands-on experience in retail operations. I was instrumental in buying and merchandising for the brand counters of three major apparel specialty retail chains across India, devising sales plan and achievement strategy for west region, making strategy for increasing in-sales store wise and customer wise, monitoring distribution management for channel, handling logistics and interacting with customers and vendors and end-to-end retail operations. And then there was no looking back.
During my tenure in operations, I must point out one fact. Acceptance of women in front end of retail operations is not common and hence this was a kind of stumbling block that I faced. I was not getting the right opportunity for quite some time and it was really difficult to make people believe in my strength without having relevant work experience, which I guess each one of us faces. But still I had to keep trying. I got a breakthrough from my current role and found myself a dual profile where I was involved in retail operations exhaustively. Handling sales pressure, meeting daily targets, negotiations, sales strategy, managing team motivation, maintaining high levels of customer service became my daily routine. And it was here that I realised that this is my passion. I was all the while in Bangalore then. Proving your worth and value in a male dominated corporate circle has always been difficult for me. Going forward, I decided to excel in retail operations and I entered into an entirely different world of retail and joined Inditex Trend Limited as Area Sales Manager for Zara in the West Region. And I realized that this is a company with not only international standards but also home to people who are passionate about Retail.
Presently, I eat, drink and sleep Zara :P. Zara is my passion. This role has not only shaped my personality but also helped me grow immensely. I work in a cross-cultural team, deliver daily sales targets, interact with top management, conduct trainings and workshops, manage multiple stores in different areas, maintain high levels of customer service, implement international standards, monitor sales, devise sales strategy and the list is endless. As a Regional manager in Retail operations, my journey doesn’t end here. This place has given my lot of responsibilities and opportunities. And I am looking forward to make it big in this industry.
